Who are we?
Poems from Prison is a common initiative of Freedom Postcards and the People’s Embassy of Belarus in Brazil. We collect poems written by Belarusian political prisoners and translate them into different languages.
Why do we do this?
In 2021, we started collecting drawings by political prisoners. We released merch with the drawings to show Belarusians and the world what talented people are imprisoned in Belarus. Poems from Prison is also about the art of political prisoners, so this initiative continues our mission.
How does this help political prisoners?
We send postcards, tote bags, and T-shirts with drawings by political prisoners all over the world in exchange for donations. We transfer the funds raised to the Dissidentby initiative, which helps political prisoners’ families with parcels for their imprisoned relatives. Poems from Behind Bars allow us to draw more attention to the problems of unjustly imprisoned Belarusians.
